Village Between Boulders
Monsanto is a small village, located on a mountainside in central Portugal. The location itself is not so amazing until you see how the buildings have integrated the gigantic boulders that populate the area.
The boulders are simply too large to break up or remove, so the houses use them as part of their structure, probably benefiting from the “thermal mass” properties.
Not surprisingly the village hasn’t really changed much for centuries.
